Our History

CCA were formed in 2005 and in its first years of operation as a small CRO it completed several small projects and co-ordinated the set-up of several clinical trials in the UK and Ireland throughout various therapeutic areas. Buoyed by the initial success of these early projects CCA seized upon positive marketing that had come about and occupied a niche clinical trial service provision segment in the UK and Irish Clinical Trials market. This niche service CRO model offering a limited but focused service was an area of the market thathad yet to be realized by any of the large contract research organisations who at the time were also carrying out work in Ireland and the UK.

Interest in CCA began to grow and as result of an effective marketing strategy, more projects began to come in from pharmaceutical companies abroad and in the UK. These companies were interested in carrying out clinical trials in Ireland and the UK but unwilling to pay the huge costs of the large multinational CROs. CCA represented a much lower cost model with no compromise in quality and performance. The company began to attract interest from larger more prestigious companies, keen on making cost savings, but confident in the knowledge their study was being performed by extremely well trained and experienced staff.

In 2006 a decision was then taken to find CCA its own stand alone facility that would enable further expansion of the company whilst providing the maximum security and privacy required for the clinical trials industry. In May 2006 CCA moved to Tivoli in Cork. The new site at Tivoli was a modern functional facility and allowed the development of more modern offices as well as conference suites, IP telephony facilities and video conferencing suites. The office at Tivoli allowed future expansion, enabled documentation management and provided CCA with a modern facility that would increase their capacity and their ability to grow further into the European clinical trials arena.

2007 saw some dramatic changes in CCA - the introduction of a new clinical development plan which saw CCA utilise its in house resources further and concentrate its activity in the key therapeutic areas of Cardiology, Cancer, (Oncology, Haematology), Antibiotics/Antivirals, Central Nervous System, Arthritis/Inflammation, Diabetes.

A strategic decision was also taken to examine CCA’s clients and identify new clients and to contact and develop relationships with new small bio-tech companies, university spin offs and academic centres currently in the pre-clinical phase. This decision was taken with a view to creating early stage relationships, thus fostering early stage clinical partnerships.

CCA have grown immeasurably in the last 3 years. The innovative trial management process at CCA and its increasing profile in the arena of clinical trials worldwide has seen a sharp rise in the number of potential clients looking at CCA as a capable and willing partner to carry out their clinical trails.
